Check it out! Sometimes words become [...]

Confidence Boosters: Reading into Writing

For P3 to P5 (10 x 1.5 hours)

Why can’t my child score well in composition? Why doesn’t he understand what he is reading?

Reading into Writing is a unique combination of 3 best-selling programmes to help your child understand and grasp the nuances of English. The Reading Detective is an exciting new approach for students to read and comprehend stories and reports, predict word meanings, link ideas, and learn to question what they have read.

There is little time in a packed primary school curriculum to diagnose the source of the grammatical problems all students face, so we have done what busy teachers have no time to do: In English Rules! We have isolated the sources of common grammatical problems and tackled them in a carefully sequenced fashion that students find very enjoyable. How do you build vocabulary? A Wizard with words gives students a vocabulary booster shot in the arm: it broadens you child’s self-esteem, range of expression and comprehension skills.

The Application activities in these 3 programmes enable learning in a variety of creative and exam-oriented contexts.

Aspiring Writers & Illustrators Scheme (AWIS)

Draw and write? Yes! Research in early childhood development has indicated that the visual senses in a seven- and eight-year-old are acute. What’s important is for him to express his thoughts. This highly interactive programme will get him to discover the creative writer in him. It also serves as an intensive introduction to composition writing. Aspiring writers will also learn the art of illustrating from a professional artist. The result: a compilation of their stories in a specially-designed volume.

Young Comic Artist Scheme E-mail

Be a Young Comic Artist!

Ms. Catherine Khoo wonderfully and uniquely created this programme particularly for kids who are in Primary 3 to Primary 6.

This programme will develop your child's potential in writing his/her own story, not in words but in comic form. Each child would be given a chance to improve his talent and ability in expressing himself through drawing. This will give him a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction after completing his graphic story.

The YCAS has been developed by Mr. Spark Tan, an illustrator-cum-comic artist, who possesses great passion for drawing and strongly believes in telling stories through his artwork.
