Kate Suzuki Kokomi
I’m a12-year-old exploring writer who enjoys reading psychological thrillers and fantasies, especially those with a sprinkle of politics and war strategy, in the most chaotic situation ever. Ever since I could remember, I had the dream of writing my own book, creating my own worlds and breathing life into my own characters. So when the Young Author Scheme presented me with that opportunity, I jumped straight in. Intrigued by my teacher’s habit of chewing ice 24/7, I decided to write this story.
For me, writing is that comforting outlet and sanctuary for me to store my thoughts, fears and dreams. My writing inspiration comes from the beautiful songs I love, the little unexpected things in my life and the books I consume. From fantasy to contemporary fiction, psychological thrillers to romance, I enjoy letting the voices of different writers wash over me.

Food is the thread that binds people together. Whether family or friend, past or present, food exists as the proof of the now and the tribute to our history. When I take a bite and the savouriness of it slides into my mouth, when I remember the black and white days of my ancestors, when that nostalgia of home and love seeps into the dish that is my heritage, I know that this is what my relationship with food is.
